Hello! my name is Catherine Tolleson. I am a Suzuki trained Suzuki Violin teacher. My love for music began at a very young age, at 12 years old I started violin lessons. my Suzuki violin teachers were a huge influence during my teenage years. My desire is to share my love of music and help students of all ages foster a deep sense of character and excellence.
Shinichi Suzuki was a violinist and philosopher from japan. He taught his students violin the same way young children learn their native language, through listening and repetition. He also had a desire to teach through nurturing and love, his goal being to grow not just fine violinist but also fine human beings. So many years later, Suzukis method of teaching is still the best way for students of any age to learn to play.
Being a registered Suzuki violin teacher means that I have undergone training that equips me to teach the Suzuki method exactly as it should be taught. This training allows me to be a part of the Suzuki community and advertise myself as a legitimate teacher of the method.
There are so many studies about the benefits of learning an instrument. learning music helps stimulate brain development in children and can even ward off dementia in senior citizens. And of course nothing compares to the joy that you get from playing a piece of music well.
